Best small bbq place. Reminds me of TX bbq as it has been a while. Friendly staff and great food.

We came here for some barbeque since The swing inn is always packed. I don`t think it compares to The swing Inn. The first time we had a great meal, brisket and sides the second time I had the Chicken and the chicken was chewy. I did not complain but I would be hesitant to go back. I would like to try their mac n cheese, I think its served during weekends. The Owner was really friendly and the restaurant was fairly small but cozy.

Been wanting to try Calhoun's for a while now and finally got to try it out today. This location is in Old Town Murrieta. The place itself is a bit small inside. There were only 3 tables inside. Staff is very friendly. I got the ala carte 1-lb brisket and small mac n cheese and potato salad, side of pickles. First of all, their BBQ sauce is fire!! It immediately hits with sweet & savory whilst tasting a bit of heat with a zesty aftertaste. I like to dip the brisket in the BBQ sauce and top it with a piece of pickle to achieve the umami goodness that good BBQ is supposed to have. The brisket was very tender and juicy, but may have lacked the smokey flavor I was anticipating. It also could have had wee bit more salt. I still liked it though. The 1-lb brisket was actually too much for 1 person, I could not finish it and had to take the rest to-go. Mac n cheese was definitely made from scratch!! The cheese was very creamy and rich. The potato salad was also very good. It had the right amount of pepper and tang, which made it enjoyable. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal. It was a lot of food. I also liked that it was a lot more affordable compared to other BBQ joints. Definitely coming back fo sho!!!

A nice BBQ restaurant near a good truck hand wash location. The restaurant was small with limited seating and parking is tuff due to overcrowding from other restaurants and businesses within the area. Don't let this discourage you from missing out on some good local food. The service was fast and they greet you with a smile. This was an unplanned visit and carry out with a first time visit. The food was good with a lite smoked flavor not overwhelming the meat, the sides were more of a homemade version. Their sweet potato pie was a wonderful treat, a must try dessert. I recommend this local BBQ restaurant.

It's about time I paid Calhoun Family Texas Barbecue a visit! I have heard so many wonderful things about this family owned restaurant, but only now went in to give it a shot. I was craving brisket, and I took this opportunity to do what I do best: support a local small business and enJOY my food!! Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed at all. I got a Brisket Slider with a side of Mac n Cheese (only available on Fridays & Saturdays; the mac, not the slider), a small order of Potato Salad, a half lb. of the Brisket a la carte and a Sweet Potato Pie! I wanted to dig in as soon as I got in my car, but I took it home so I could get the full experience without making a mess. The barbecue sauce is so damn good, I love that it's not spicy. It's just good ole barbecue sauce as we know it! The slider looked small at first, but hey, it's a slider, and they're meant to be small. I slathered some sauce on top before picking it up to take that first bite, and omg, my mouth was already watering because some chunks of brisket fell out. It was heavenly to say the least. Next up was the brisket a la carte. I put some sauce on that, too, and wow!! This is a gold mine for brisket done right! The potato salad and mac n cheese went so well with the meat. That mac is pure FIRE! I didn't eat all of the sweet potato pie, but I took a few bites of it, so I can have some for later. YUMMMM!! You can taste the love that's baked right into it. I normally don't like crust on a pie because they're always so thick. This one is perfect. It's flakey, soft and oh-so-good!! They also pack a pickle spear to go with your meal. I love me some pickles with barbecue! I will have to come back to try the other items on their menu. The prices are reasonable, and they do have parking right outside, although it can get pretty packed during the lunch rush. Get your craving satisfied here at Calhoun Family Texas Barbecue! #SupportLocal #SupportSmallBusiness

I live in San Diego and know people who live in Riverside, San Juan Capistrano and Irvine who love this place....I have been coming here for years now and I finally had the baby backs! They are smokey and delicious! I always get the brisket sandwich and beans....so I went with potato salad and a side of fries ! These guys do everything right. Best BBQ around. Service is always great and being able to smell that BBQ as you are walking up! Hard to beat.

Always heard of the name of the restaurant and in my mind I thought it was a big restaurant like Texas Roadhouse. But it was a hole in the wall mom and pop shop. Today we were in the plaza and my autistic son and I went for a stroll while dad took care of some stuff at the silver store. Got to the end of the walk i immediately got excited when I realized what was at the end of the strip. In my mind I said we gotta try them or here's my opportunity but gotta get hubby on board. Hubby wasn't too fond of my idea but I won. Little did he know that he found the best Mac n cheese in this little place. He loved it so much that he ordered a big tub to go. He said they told him that they only make Mac and cheese on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We got lucky. My husband ordered two spareribs and said they were ok. I ordered the brisket sandwich and thought it was good. The potato salad was ok. My husband said he liked their ice tea it's homemade. The place is small and has very little seatings. This place is the family of the late police officer that died on duty. I will definitely come back to support them and try their other stuff.

Great bbq! But it's such a tiny place, and obviously quite popular, so you can consider yourself lucky if you get a table. Extremely limited seating, you might want to consider eating your food elsewhere. The pork spareribs are beautifully smoked and deliciously seasoned, very meaty, and best of all, unbelievably juicy. The bbq sauce is sweet and put in a cup not on the meat. We ordered a half rack and ended up with 5 big ribs plus the end slab that I personally find too tough and dry. But I forgive them, as the remainder were perfection. Mr B chose two small sides: potato salad (decent) and beans (for which he was unimpressed; it tasted canned, but had chunks of brisket added). But overall, this was fine bbq! Calhoun's could become a habit for us.
